Description

Las Casitas del Colca has a breathtaking location overlooking the Colca Canyon on a 24-hectare estate, bordered on each side by a ravine with spectacular terrace views. The lodge boasts 20 luxury casitas (110sqm each) dotted throughout the property. Each casita has a private terrace with plunge pool, fireplace, indoor and outdoor shower, and a hot tub on the verandah - ideal for relaxing after a day exploring the delights of the Colca Canyon. The casitas have been built and decorated with the beauty of the locality in mind. The emphasis has been placed on natural materials; walls are made of brick whilst roofs are constructed of wood and handcrafted tiles.

Situated adjacent to the free form swimming pool, the Spa Samay features a sauna, two single treatment rooms, one double treatment room and a treatment suite complete with a soaking tub. This calming and quiet space is inspired by the Inca world and offers a range of treatments using indigenous products from the Colca Valley and the highlands of Peru.

The Colca Canyon area is so untouched that many local traditions remain and it is an ideal location for retreats, treks and tours of the valley. An unmissable highlight of any stay is to watch the magnificent condors soaring up the canyon walls on thermals rising in the mornings. Las Casitas del Colca strives to make as little impact as possible on its local environment and is largely self-sufficient, with a small farm, a vegetable garden and a trout pond on the land, providing fresh organic produce.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Casitas del Colca is made up of 20 luxury casitas. Each casita features a luxury bedroom and seating area, a large bathroom with bathtub and indoor and outdoor shower and a private terrace with heated plunge pool. The casitas combine traditional decoration with modern technology, including Wi-Fi, ipod deck and underfloor heating. There is one Presidential Casita, which has a separate living and dining room, with amazing views over the Colca valley.

Childcare

Children are welcome at Las Casitas del Colca and are sure to enjoy the on-site farm and some of the soft adventure activities. 2 of the casitas are joined by a lobby, making ideal accommodation for a family.

Facilities

Las Casitas del Colca has its own farm, vegetable garden and trout pond, providing much of the organic produce used in the hotel's restaurant. Delicious Peruvian inspired cuisine is served in the main building or al-fresco on the terrace, with amazing views over the valley. For some luxury pampering the excellent Spa Samay offers an extensive range of relaxing Andean-inspired treatments, including signature treatments using herbs and plants grown on-site. There is also an outdoor free form pool.

Activities

Las Casitas del Colca has an on-site farm, vegetable garden and trout pond, which guests are welcome to visit and perhaps even catch a fish for dinner or help feed the baby alpacas. Guests may explore the extensive grounds at Las Casitas del Colca on foot, by bike or on horseback or may wish to venture out further into the Colca Canyon, discovering spectcular ravines, hidden lagoons and fascinating local flora and fauna. Visits can also be made to see the condors and to local Andean villages.

When to travel

The best time to visit the Colca Canyon is usually during the dry season, May through November: The Colca Valley is lush and green just after the heavy rains from January to March. Though sunny during the day, it can also get quite cold (below freezing) at night so make sure to pack some warm clothing.

If you intend to do some river rafting, the best time to go is during the raining season, when the river is at its highest (January through April).
