Casa Andina Private Collection Arequipa is recommended for
Classic Hotel 0 Culture2Adventure1

Description

Meticulously restored and remodelled in 2008 after more than a century of neglect, the hotel features high vaulted ceilings, two ample colonial courtyards, and an elegant gourmet restaurant. The lengthy restoration unearthed numerous surprises, including original frescoes, reliefs, and even a chapel long hidden from view. Five large suites have unrivalled Republican-era flavour, yet the historic mansion has also been ingeniously adapted: a unique architectural skylight shields the main courtyard from Arequipa’s intense sun, and 36 new rooms are located off a second interior patio.

The hotel has an excellent gourmet restaurant, situated alongside the elegant bar, which opens out onto the central courtyard. For spectacular panoramic views of the cathedral and El Misti volcano head to the terrace situated on the fourth floor.

Activities

Arequipa is Peru's most elegant city, a remarkable colonial collection of sillar (native white volcanic stone) constructions. Its complement of colonial buildings, which includes casonas (manor houses), convents and churches, are some of the most refined and historic in Peru. Yet the city, ringed by snow-capped volcanoes, is nearly as well known for the gorgeous rural scenery only minutes away, and Arequipa has quickly become a destination for outdoors enthusiasts. Experiencing Arequipa means exploring its rich colonial heritage but also getting outdoors for white water rafting, biking and exploring the beautiful countryside.

When to travel

The dry season from June to September may be the best time to visit Arequipa. However, Arequipa enjoys over 300 days of sunny blue skies per year so you can visit and enjoy the many activities and sightseeing opportunities of the city and its surroundings all year long. Make sure to bring some warm clothes as the nights can be rather cold.

Every August 15th there is a city-wide party celebrating Arequipa´s founder, Garcí Manuel de Carbajal. It is a great time to see Arequipa and mingle with the locals.
