Mainland Ecuador
Ecuador’s mainland boasts spectacular volcanoes, the incredible diversity of the Amazon basin, amazing cloudforests, and a wonderful variety of colourful market towns. The beautiful capital, Quito, sits high in the Andes at the foot of Pichincha volcano, more than 9,000 feet above sea level. It has a charming old quarter with narrow cobbled streets and a wealth of churches, museums and colourful market stalls. The city also makes an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding spectacular scenery and renowned Indian markets selling leather, textiles and handicrafts.
