Description
Pousada Picinguaba is a traditional converted fazenda in a tiny fishing village surrounded by tropical rainforest and mountainous peaks. The hotel is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, within the heart of a protected national park.
All of the ten guest rooms, each with private balconies, have stunning views over the bay or gardens. There is also a restaurant serving mouth watering local dishes using freshly caught fish from the bay and organic ingredients sourced from the hotel's very own farm.
Sail to deserted islands on the hotel’s very own 40ft schooner, picnic on secluded beaches, enjoy mouthwatering local cuisine, hike within the forest to natural pools, bathe in nearby waterfalls and visit the nearby colonial town of Paraty. Other activities include fishing, hiking, sailing, kayaking and surfing.

Large freshwater pool fed by a natural spring, sun deck, 40ft schooner yacht anchored at the beachfront to take guests to the islands, tropical gardens, sauna, bar and restaurant.

When to travel
October to April is the ideal time to visit. High season is generally December to April when it's warm and humid. The coastal location ensures that temperatures rarely exceed 30°C and generally do not fall below 13°C (nighttimes in July). Even in winter (June-September), when rates are lower, daytime temperatures usually reach 21°C. Rainfall is a possibility throughout the year, but January and February often experience slightly heavier showers. Christmas, New Year, January, Carnival, Easter and Paratiy's International Literary Festival (normally held in July) are high season and hotels will be busy.

Pousada Picinguaba is located in the small fishing village of Picinguaba, which is halfway between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo - a 4-hour car journey from either. Nestled in a sheltered cove, near the colonial town of Parati.
How to get there
11.5 hour international flight to Rio's Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport or São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport. From either airport it's a 3-4 hour transfer to the hotel. Alternatively helicopter transfers from Rio can be arranged.
