Description

Casa Paraty is an immaculately restored colonial mansion located in the heart of the seventeenth-century town of Paraty which is entirely closed to traffic. The house is perfect for families and is very private, with a wrap-around walled garden, circular swimming pool, inside and outside dining areas and four air-conditioned bedrooms. The state-of-the-art bathrooms are unexpected given the unspoilt colonial exterior.

This coast boasts some of the most virgin and least visited beaches in Southern Brazil, and there is a huge variety of things to do, from trips to waterfalls in the rainforest, beach-hopping walks and sea kayaking trips, as well as speedboat and yacht charters.

The house comes with an English-speaking concierge, cook, housekeeper, butler and maid, and also has its own schooner (for an additional charge) for guests to explore the nearby bays and tropical islands.

Accommodation

Casa Paraty sleeps up to 8 guests. The first floor is home to one en-suite double room, one en-suite twin room and the Master Suite. The second floor has an attic bedroom with twin beds and views over the town's tiled rooftops to the sea. The rooms are all air conditioned and are decorated in a fresh, simple style, with whitewashed walls and wood floors and furniture. The bathrooms are elegantly designed, with luxury fittings and the Master Suite has a bath, walk-in shower and sauna.

Childcare

Families with children of all ages are welcome at Casa Paraty and the pool is sure to be popular with children (please note the pool is not closed off from the house). Babysitting can be arranged on request, for an additional charge.

Facilities

Casa Paraty has a dining room, sitting room with cable television, and a kitchen, with cooker and stove, large fridge, ice maker and microwave. Outside is a well kept garden and paved deck area, with a lovely circular blue tiled pool. There is ample space for guests to enjoy al-fresco dining and a barbecue area for grilling the catch of the day. There is also a schooner available for an extra charge.

Swimming pool, garden, private schooner available to charter (for an additional charge)

Activities

Casa Paraty is great for simply relaxing and hanging out by the pool as well as being ideally located for exploring the beautiful colonial town of Paraty, with its cobbled streets, quaint fishermen's cottages, white-washed houses and a wealth of art galleries, shops and restaurants. It is also possible to arrange boat trips to beautiful unspoilt beaches, rainforest treks to beaches and waterfalls, diving and snorkeling, sea fishing, horse riding, Brazilian cookery classes and watersports.

Services

Casa Paraty counts with the services of two maids (from the hours of 8am to 3pm), a cook (from the hours of 8am to 5pm) and an English-speaking concierge who attends to guests after breakfast and returns to host tea/cocktails in the evening and help plan the next day. A welcome hamper is provided on arrival. Additional maid cover, babysitting and spa treatments (in house or at a local day spa) can be arranged for an additional charge, payable locally.

When to travel

October to April is the ideal time to visit. High season is generally December to April when it's warm and humid. The coastal location ensures that temperatures rarely exceed 30°C and generally do not fall below 13°C (nighttimes in July). Even in winter (June-September), when rates are lower, daytime temperatures usually reach 21°C. Rainfall is a possibility throughout the year, but January and February often experience slightly heavier showers. Christmas, New Year, January, Carnival, Easter and Paratiy's International Literary Festival (normally held in July) are high season and hotels will be busy.
