Description

Helsingfors, set at the heart of Argentina's Patagonia region, 180km north of El Calafate, is surrounded by stunning landscapes, sheltered by coniferous woods which give way to panoramic views of the lake and snow capped peaks. The ranch has eight en-suite guest rooms, with a style combining colours and textures that blend in with the environment.

Part of what makes Helsingfors a unique experience is the regional cuisine on offer. The ranch has its very own vegetable garden and a refined cellar with a variety of Argentine and Chilean select vintage wines to accompany traditional local dishes, such as Patagonian lamb and trout. There are various activities to participate in around the estancia, including trekking, horse riding, sailing on the lake (weather permitting), fishing, glacier walks, riding and typical activities of a traditional Patagonian ranch.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Helsingfors is in eight individually decorated guest rooms, all with private bathroom. Some of the rooms have a whirlpool bath and others have a Scottish shower.

Childcare

Children are welcomed at Helsingfors. There are two triple rooms available and cots can be arranged on request. A stay at Helsingfors is great for families who enjoy the outdoors although some of the hiking and riding excursions are only really suitable for older children as the terrain can be challenging in places.

Facilities

Helsingfors has a restaurant specialising in regional cuisine, a living room and bar with an open fireplace, and wine cellar. The lodge also has its own horses for riding excursions, fishing rods and motor boat for navigations. Please note there is no mobile phone coverage at the estancia and just one phone in reception for incoming calls.

Activities

A variety of activities are on offer at Helsingfors including boat trips to Viedma glacier (weather permitting), trekking to Laguna del Morro, trekking or horse riding to Blue Lagoon and fishing.

When to travel

October to April is generally the best time to visit, but the southern autumn (April and May) is often characterised by extraordinary leaf colours, and prices are usually lower at this time. Winter days are cold but often still.
