Description
Once the estate of the powerful Bemberg family, Posada Puerto Bemberg is a colonial-style villa of great charm and attentive personal service, in a spectacular natural setting. Combining a turn-of-the-century style with amenities and facilities for the most discerning traveller, its fan-cooled verandahs, wide spaces and native artefacts make for the most gracious of retreats, and offer a superb base for exploring the Iguazu Falls and surrounding wildlife-rich jungles.
There are 14 cool and spacious bedrooms that open onto gardens and a sandstone swimming pool, as well as a superb reference library of 2,500 volumes, many on natural history. The hotel's fine restaurant serves local cuisine with gourmet touches and an excellent selection of the finest Argentinean wines.
Guests can explore the Parana's tributaries in the hotel's launch, dig around Jesuit Missions, observe toucans and hummingbirds from the observation tower, discover the world's widest waterfall (not Iguazu) or inspect the hotel's nursery of native plants. One of the real treats here is a glass of chilled tereré, an Argentinean green tea, as you relax at canopy level on a wooden observation deck, with views of the Parana River and the lush slopes of Paraguay beyond.
