Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and lush forests, the Correntoso Lake & River Hotel is ideally located at the mouth of the Correntoso River where it enters Lake Nahuel Huapi at the foot of the Andes, making it a great point from which to experience the charm and stunning wilds of Patagonia.
Since 1917, when the only access to these remote corners of Patagonia was by boat or seaplane, the visionary pioneer Primo Capraro, enchanted by the magnificent scenery, built a small wooden cabin frequented by friends, visitors and fly-fishermen. Thereafter it grew by stages into this excellent and extremely comfortable hotel, which has a very homely feel to it.
The 49 rooms and suites at Correntoso have panoramic windows with spectacular lake views and feature fine woodwork, elegant, comfortable furnishings and many modern in-room amenities.
The dining at Correntoso is first class. The Gourmet Restaurant serves a delicious afternoon tea with homemade pastries and chocolate whilst evening meals feature Mediterranean inspired local cuisine in an elegant view setting. Puerto Correntoso offers a more casual al-fresco dining experience with views over the lake.
For some luxury pampering take time out to rejuvenate the senses at the Herbal Hammam and spa, inspired by the local surrounding and using natural Patagonian products. Alternatively for something more active take a dip in the pool or enjoy some of the many activities on offer including trekking, boating, rafting, horseback riding, fishing, skiing, snowshoeing (in season), with gourmet picnics or complete asado (Argentine barbecue) lunches included on most tours.
Accommodation
Correntoso Lake and River Hotel has 49 comfortable rooms and suites with stunning views over the lake. The rooms are decorated in warm earthy tones with fine wood furnishings and all have king beds, WiFi and cable television.
Childcare
Children are welcome at Correntoso. There is a dedicated family restaurant and babysitting can be arranged on request. A Lake Superior Room connecting with a Junior Suite provides ideal family accommodation. There are also plenty of soft adventure options in the surrounding area that all the family can enjoy.
Facilities
Correntoso has excellent facilities including an indoor/outdoor heated pool, a relaxing herbal hammam and spa and a cosy lounge and wine bar. The hotel has two excellent restaurants, the Gourmet Restaurant serving a fusion of Mediterranean and local Patagonian cuisine and Puerto Correntoso offering more casual fare on a deck overlooking the lake.
Activities
Guests at Correntoso can enjoy relaxing spa treatments and swimming in the hotel pool in addition to hiking, sailing, mountain biking, kayaking and horse riding in the Nahuel Huapi National Park. Fly-fishing, for which this region is well known, can be arranged with professional guides. In the winter months the Cerro Bayo ski centre offers opportunities for skiing and snowboarding.
When to travel
The Lake District is beautiful in spring (October) and autumn (March) and fresher in these months than during the height of summer. Between October and April is the best time to visit, although skiing is good from July to September. Winter is usually pretty mild.
