Description

Even arriving at Clayoquot is an adventure. The 45 minute floatplane ride from Vancouver takes in spectacular scenery from snow capped mountains to pristine forest and meandering rivers. The plane lands on the lake that surrounds the resort and guests are transported by horse and cart to the heart of the resort.

The main lodge houses comfortable sofas, a roaring open fire and a cosy dining room. For those who prefer private dining, individual tents allow a more intimate experience. This is certainly not camping though, fine linens, silver service and a sumptuous menu of modern natural cuisine is presented for guests enjoyment by long time chef, Timothy May and his highly skilled team.

As dinner winds down, guests can retire to their own luxurious private tent. Nestled into the forest or down on the lake they offer every comfort with king size beds and plush down duvets, ensuring a toasty nights sleep.

As day breaks, the Clayoquot experience really begins. Choose your activity and get started or simply pick a chair, take in the view and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this little oasis. From fishing to wildlife viewing, from horse riding to mountain biking, it is all here for you to enjoy. Even if you prefer to be more relaxed, guests can paint, stroll, soak up the atmosphere from the hot tub or indulge in a treatment in the spa.

With walking trails aplenty, guests can find waterfalls, rope bridges, rivers and even an old mine to explore.

Take to the water in one of the resorts Zodiac boats which will whisk you through crystal clear rivers for intimate wildlife encounters. Watch the magnificent eagles perch, the sea lions bask and perhaps enjoy a glimpse of black bears, sometimes seen with their cubs if you are really lucky. Head a little further for whale watching away from the crowds and go ashore to explore deserted islands of Clayoquat Sound.

Fishing is why many guests flock to Clayoquot. Ocean and fresh water fishing are available and every persons stay includes at least one half days fishing.

Children are well looked after at Clayoquot and love the freedom this intimate resort affords them. They can explore at leisure or take part in one of the activity programmes specially designed for young enquiring minds.

BC’s varied climate is influenced by latitude, elevation and ocean proximity but it’s generally warmer in the south and cooler in the north. Winters are mild in Vancouver and Victoria, with only brief snowfalls, while other regions – especially the north and the interior – are subject to freezing temperatures and heavy snow from November to March.

Spring and fall are often warm and pleasant but rainfall can be heavy, particularly on the coast. Summers (June to September) are mostly dry and sunny with warm temperatures, but the interior is hot in July and August, with temperatures surpassing 30°C
