This fantastic tropical retreat by Orient Express is located next to the world's second largest reef surrounded by 200 acres of jungle and plantation preserve.
The 65 guest rooms and suites are decorated in a traditional Mexican style with handpainted tiles, mahogany furnishings and soft wool rugs. Bathrooms are well appointed with luxurious sunken baths and thatched roof terraces offer stunning views of the ocean and jungle.
Guests can enjoy excellent Yucatan inspired cuisine served in an oceanfront dining area or under the thatched palapa on the beach. By night the beachfront dining area is illuminated by candles and torches. The spa and wellness centre offers a range of spa and beauty treatments including facials, massages, yoga and reiki.
Given its privileged beach location, one can enjoy a long list of water sports, including snorkelling, diving, sailing, parasailing, sport fishing, kayaking and swimming with dolphins. It's also possible to arrange excursions to nearby Mayan ruins such as Coba and Tulum.

The Maroma has 65 guest rooms and suites, furnished with soft wool rugs, handpainted tiles, original artwork and king size beds. There is also an 4 bedroom oceanfront villa.
Childcare
Children are welcome all year round at the Maroma. Up to 2 children can be accommodated in the Garden Master Suites and above and children are given a welcome kit, child size slippers and kaftans and milk and cookies at bedtime. Babysitting can be arranged and there is a daily 2 hour afternoon supervised children's programme, where the children can learn about Mexican and Mayan culture through play. There is also a games room and a family swimming pool and beach games.
Facilities
Maroma is set amongst beautiful tropical gardens and has 3 swimming pools and 2 tennis courts. Tennis lessons with a pro can be arranged on request. There is also an observation tower where guests can chill out and enjoy the views and also organise a special private dinner on request, and a cultural palapa, with a range of books and magazines, television with a selection of movies and complimentary. The hotel has some excellent restaurants, with the option of dining by the beach, a wine cellar and a great tequila and ceviche bar.
Activities
Guests at the Maroma can enjoy a wide variety of activities including cooking classes, kite surfing, snorkelling, swimming, diving, kayaking, sailing, parasailing, swimming with dolphins, horseback riding, tennis and whale watching. Excursions can also be arranged to some of the famous Mayan sites dotted around the Yucatan peninsula.
When to travel
The Yucatán Peninsula is hot and humid. The rainy season is mid-August to mid-October, when there’s afternoon showers most days. The best time to visit is during the dryer, slightly cooler months between November and May. Hurricane season runs from June to November.
