Description

With marvellous views over La Bufa Hill, Villa Maria Cristina provides all-suite accommodation, a Romanesque spa, a superb restaurant and an atmospheric bar.

The ambience is that of a private mansion house. Inspired decorative detailing complements the period architecture to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. High ceilings, tall windows, balustraded balconies with pretty ironwork railings merge with terracotta-coloured walls and mosaics. The terrace is a romantic spot for alfresco dining with wrought-iron lamps and a pretty water feature.

There are thirteen sumptuous and spacious suites distributed throughout the house. High ceilings, large windows, wooden floors and elegant Roche Bobois furniture in warm, dark woods create an atmosphere of understated sophistication for the most discerning guests.

Discover the delightful cobblestone streets of Guanajuato, visit Kiss Alley with its low balconies, then take the funicular railway to Pipila monument for stunning views. Return to the hotel and relax in the Roman-style sunken pool before dining on Mexican cuisine in the elegant dining room.

When to travel

The Colonial Highlands are blessed with a spring-like climate year-round. The average day is brisk in the morning, warm and sunny in the afternoon and cool at night. Winter days are warm (in the 20s C), although you may require a sweater after the sun goes down. April and May tend to be hot and dry. Expect brief afternoon showers 3 or 4 times a week from June to mid-October. Rains are typically heaviest in July and August. Host to the annual International Cervantino Festival, every October sees artists from all over the world descend on Guanajuato for two weeks.
