Description

Tortuguero is found on Costa Rica's Northern Caribbean Coast and is one of the most diverse National Parks in Central America. Here the coastal rainforest is threaded by a maze of serpentine canals and streams fed by rivers flowing from the central mountain ranges.

Manatus Lodge inspires an extraordinary sense of peace and is ideally located for exploring the surrounding environment rich in flora and fauna. With great service and just 12 air-conditioned luxury rooms with private terraces, a wonderful swimming pool, and a wide range of activities, from watching turtles hatch on the beach (from July to November) to kayaking in the Tortuguero channels, canopy tours and water bicycles, here you can enjoy nature at its best without sacrificing creature comforts.

Accommodation

Manatus Hotel has 12 air-conditioned rooms set amongst the lush tropical gardens. The rooms are stylishly decorated, with local artwork, polished wood floors, two four-poster queen beds hung with flowing drapes, fine bed linens and high beam ceilings. All the rooms have television, minibar and their own private terrace.

Childcare

Children are welcome at Manatus Hotel. Although there are no formal children's activities youngsters are sure to enjoy the adventurous nature of a stay in Tortuguero and the fascinating local wildlife.

Facilities

Manatus Hotel has a lovely swimming pool surrounded by gardens and overlooking Tortugueros canals, a bar, restaurant with inside and covered al-fresco dining area.

Activities

Activities on offer at Manatus Hotel include spa treatments, water cycling, kayaking, boat trips through the canals and forest hikes to see the local wildlife, accompanied by the hotel's guides. Sports fishing can also be arranged in the surrounding area and from July to November visits are offered to see the turtles nesting on the beach.

When to travel

The summer season (November to April), also called the 'dry' season, doesn't necessarily mean no rain- but there should be less of it. The 'green' season (May to November) can still be a good time to visit- you can avoid the tourist bustle and lodging is slightly cheaper. During this time, however, rivers start to swell and dirt roads get muddy, making travel more challenging.
