Description
Jake’s is a small boutique hotel with lots of personality and charisma. It is located in Treasure Beach, a secluded fishing village. Theatrical designer and owner Sally Henzell created the colourful cottages and gave them each a unique design drawing inspiration from an eclectic mix of Jamaica, Mexican and Catalan styles. All the cottages are steps away from the Caribbean Sea and hotel facilities where guests can sunbathe on the neighbouring beach or around the saltwater pool or go one of many adventurous activities. The Black River Safari along the Great Morass, home to more than 100 species of birds, a bounty of tarpon and snook and the Crocodylus acutus, is a great one for families with older children.
The food is delicious and typically Jamaican using lots of spices and seafood. There is a poolside bar run by Duggie who is known for his wicked rum punch and concoction of the day. Duggie keeps the bar open until the last guest goes to bed, whatever time that may be! It’s laid back character and seclusion attracts a diverse mix of guests from celebrities seeking privacy to adventurers looking for a vacation off the beaten path.

When to travel
Jamaica is a year-round destination, though there are seasonal differences to consider. Weather-wise, temperature isn’t an important factor: winter is usually warm by day and mild to cool by night, and summer months are hot. The rainy season extends from May to November, with peaks in May, June, October and November. Rain usually falls for short periods (normally in the late afternoon), and it’s quite possible to enjoy sunshine for most of your visit during these months. However, note that in Portland parish, it can rain for days on end.
Tourism’s high, or ‘winter, ’ season runs from early-December to mid-April.
