The Victoria Falls, on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, is considered to be the largest waterfall in the world, and offers a variety of activities, from adrenaline-filled to sedate, to suit all appetites.
Viewing the Victoria Falls from the Zambian side is exciting; stand on the Knife-Edge Bridge and you will see (and hear!) the full force of millions of gallons of water cascading over one hundred metres into the gorge below. But the Falls offers other activities too.
Perhaps visit Livingstone Island, named after David Livingstone, the first European to view the falls, who proclaimed them "scenes so lovely they must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight". The Island perches right on the edge of the Falls and can be visited for a morning breezer, a light lunch or a sumptuous afternoon tea. For the real daredevils, take a dip in Devil's Pool - a natural rockpool right on the very edge of the falls with a vertical drop to the gorge on one side.
Also on offer is microlighting and helicopter flips over the falls - this will give you a new perspective, and show very clearly how the falls have carved their passage through solid rock. The zig-zags of the gorges into which the water plunges are very apparent, and the trips will take you right upriver, over the falls themselves and then follow the gorges southward. It's an exciting experience!
For those wishing to enjoy an adrenaline-filled and energetic activity, look no further than the white-water rafting below the falls. In sturdy inflatable boats, each with its own captain, you will don lifejackets and helmet and navigate all the rapids as they churn their way through the gorges. Expect high adventure and excitement, and to get absolutely soaked in the process. Halfway through, stop for a hearty lunch on the rocks, before getting back in the boats and navigating the last few rapids. And at the end of your day, you'll be presented with a video of your adventure!
The Victoria Falls has much to offer for all tastes; let us help you plan a superb trip here to experience all it has to offer.
