Garden Route
Stretching along the coast from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, the garden route is deservedly one of South Africa’s most popular journeys. Visit the small fishing town of Hermanus where whale watching is superb from July to November. A few hours further down the road you’ll discover Knysna, a tranquil little town on the shores of a peaceful estuary. Beyond that is Plettenberg Bay with its buzzing bars and restaurants, and the sweeping arcs of golden sand that make up its four beaches. There are plenty of outdoor activities around Plettenberg including mountain-biking, riding, golf, sky-diving, hot-air ballooning, or simply exploring the Tsitsikamma Forest and pristine beaches. Self-driving is easy with well-kept, clearly signposted roads and left-hand drive.
