Description

Flanked by the Zuuberg Mountains and home to the Big Five, the region is also steeped in history and along with National Parks, River Bend is also involved in rehabilitating this magnificent wildlife region to its former glory.

Game drives are conducted inside the Addo or in the 5000ha Private Intsomi Reserve. The Intsomi Reserve, accessible exclusively by River Bend, is also home to various species not seen in the Addo such as giraffe, white rhino and gemsbok.

River Bend lodge offers eight spacious suites are simple and stylishly designed and all offer fantastic views. Four Luxury Suites have adjoining doors, making them ideal for groups or families. The food is naturally a focus of the lodge and the service and hospitality are both excellent.

Long Hope Villa, located in the Addo National Park, is a beautifully converted farmhouse that can be hired on an exclusive basis and offers three well appointed en-suite bedrooms. The lodge is open-plan with comfy sofas, satellite TV and DVD player and an interactive kitchen where your own personal chef will be happy to prepare delicious local cuisine.

Children of every age are welcomed at River Bend and there are childminders on hand, a wonderful playroom and lots of activities designed for young ones.

Accommodation

River Bend Lodge offers 8 suites and Long Hope Villa. All suites feature air conditioning ceiling fans, electronic safes, a minibar, satellite TV and an en suite bathroom with separate bath and shower (the Honeymoon Suite is equipped with outdoor showers and a private plunge pool).

Childcare

Children are welcome but there are no specific facilities except babysitting.

Activities

Game drives are complimentary at the lodge. Horse riding, birdwatching, cultural and historical excursions, astronomy and Elephant Encounters are charged additionally.

When to travel

Game viewing is excellent all year round. Summers (October to March) are hot and wet, were as winters (May to August) are cool and dry. Daytime temperatures in summer are high and may soar above 36°C/97°F. Winter is known to produce beautiful warm days, though the evenings and early mornings can be quite chilly.

RiverBend Lodge is situated within the world famous Addo Elephant National Park. Anchored on endless horizons and flanked by the Zuurberg Mountains, RiverBend Lodge is situated a mere 45 minutes from Port Elizabeth, within a 14 000 ha private concession area of the Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province.

How to get there

Guests are advised to fly to Port Elizabeth and proceed to RiverBend by road. A flight from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. The distance from Port Elizabeth to RiverBend is 70km and can be comfortably covered by road in an hour. Most people will self-drive although RiverBend can arrange an airport transfer on request.
