Description
Kuala Wilderness Camp is in the 37,000ha private Kulala Wilderness Reserve. The main area is raised to take advantage of the endless vista and comprises a lounge and bar under thatch. Meals are taken on the deck and guests can cool off at the sparkling pool. Nearby world-famous Sossusvlei is an enormous clay pan, flanked by the famous red sand dunes that stand out starkly against the blue sky. On the edge of the Namib, the oldest desert in the world, wildlife here is fascinating in its adaptation to the harsh conditions. Sparse yet thrilling to see are springbok, gemsbok, ostrich, bat-eared fox, the rarely seen aardwolf and many small fauna. Activities include excursions to the incredible dunes of Sossusvlei, early morning ballooning (at extra cost), guided walks and scenic nature drives.
Accommodation
Accommodation at Kulala Wilderness Camp consists of 10 comfortable "kulalas" (meaning "to sleep" in Oshiwambo) with en-suite bathrooms and verandas built on elevated platforms for that spectacular view. This include one dedicated family room.
Childcare
Children are most welcome but there are no facilities except babysitting. The camp does have a family room.

Activities at Kulala Wilderness Camp are focused on exploring the nearby world-famous Sossusvlei - an enormous clay pan, flanked by the famous sand dunes that stand out starkly against the blue sky. Another option, at an extra cost, is early morning ballooning, beginning at first light. The balloon safari offers a truly unique experience to soar silently above the magnificent sand dunes and desert, with a champagne breakfast being served at your landing site. Also available are horse safaris on request.
When to travel
If you're visiting Sossusvlei, the best thing to do is avoid the summer, which is extremely hot. Therefore, the best time to visit southern Namibia is in winter (May and September) but bear in mind that the desert regions can be bitterly cold at this time of year. The climate of the southern coast is hospitable from February to May, but quite cool and misty year-round, and particularly windy in August.

Kulala Wilderness Camp, situated in the heart of the Namib Desert on the private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, lies at the base of a mountain perfectly catching the majestic Namibian sunsets. Close by is the Sossusvlei with its ever-changing red sand dunes.
How to get there
Kulala Wilderness Camp is approximately a 1 hour flight from Windhoek. The airstrip is located 10 minutes drive from the camp. For self drive its approximately 5 hours from Windhoek (340 km).
