Description
The rooms at Mushara Lodge are curled in a horseshoe shape around a beautiful swimming pool on the edge of the famous Etosha National Park. Great attention has been paid to the décor, which boasts an eclectic mix of traditional African and modern art. The name Mushara itself derives from the Purple Pod Terminalia tree, which grows in abundance in the lodge grounds and the surrounding area.
The 14 cottages, each with an open terrace, are simply decorated and air-conditioned. The public area consists of a small library with a good selection of books, bar with extensive wine cellar, dining area, well-stocked curio shop and an airy lounge with welcoming fireplace (perfect for cool winter evenings).
The eastern gate of the Etosha National Park is just eight kilometres away and guests can enjoy game drives into the park as well as safaris on foot. Etosha National Park is one of Southern Africa’s finest and most important Game Reserves, which was declared a National Park in 1907. The park covers an area of 22 270 km² and is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and one species of fish.
Accommodation
Each of the 14 cottages, including a family unit and a triple room, each has a large bathroom, which has an oversized window and shower looking into the surrounding bush. The brushed cement floors and stone walls keep the tents cool from the afternoon sun.
Childcare
Children are most welcome and in the main house there is a special area designated for children with books, games, toys, drawing utensils, creative plays and very friendly child minders to keep the children active. Outside there is a play park with a jungle gym, old tractor and a sand pit. And there is also a kiddie’s pool. Four of the tents are ideally suited for families with small children as they have a sleeper couch sleeping two children each. Food and meal times can easily be adjusted to suit younger visitors and babysitting can be arranged on request.
Facilities
The public area consists of a small library with a good selection of books, bar with extensive wine cellar, dining area, well-stocked curio shop and an airy lounge with welcoming fireplace (perfect for cool winter evenings). There is also a lovely swimming pool to enjoy between safaris.

When to travel
The best time to visit Etosha is from April to September as the temperature is tolerably cool, especially at night. From May to September the increasingly thirsty animals gather at waterholes, making it the best time to go to Etosha for game viewing. Summer is best time to travel to Etosha for bird watching as migratory birds (both intra-African and Palaearctic) flock into the park's many habitats after the summer rains.
