Botswana is known for its excellent game-viewing, with large populations of predators and enormous herds of buffalo. There is nowhere in the Delta better to watch the clashes between these two than at Duba Plains.
This rustic yet luxurious camp is in the northern part of the Delta, relatively close to the Vumbura area, and in an area of open plains, date palm islands, and standing water.
Duba is, in effect, a fair sized island, surrounded by water except for a narrow strip of land. This means that animals like buffalo amble onto it to take advantage of the nutritious grazing, and then essentially get trapped there.
This means that the lucky lions of Duba Plains can slowly and steadily take their pick from the large herds on the island. Unlike other lions, which can sleep for up to twenty hours a day, the Duba lions are so confident in their plentiful surroundings, that they hunt whenever they feel hungry, day or night, in the knowledge that a good meal will always present itself. Spending four nights at Duba Plains virtually guarantees a hunting sighting, often with a kill at the end of it.
So if you want to see lions as the exciting and potent predators that they truly are, Duba Plains is the place to be.
