Description

Having received accolade after accolade since its launch as the premier cruising vessel on the upper Nile, the Oberoi Philae is the most luxurious of the floating hotels. Styled as a 19th Century paddle steamer and finished in dark woods with European antiques, Oriental carpets, parquet floors, teak panelling and elegant period fittings, the Philae is elegant and charming.

The Philae's 58 cabins each have their own balcony with sun loungers that gives a private panoramic view of the Egyptian Nile landscape. Other comforts include private bathrooms with showers, mini bars and TVs. For even more space and a bath, choose one of the Philae's Deluxe Suites located on the upper deck which has a separate living room.

The Philae's elegant restaurant specialises in fine dining and the impeccable service, presentation and design of both the restaurant and food make meals on board a first class experience. There is also a panelled bar, library and plunge pool on the sun deck. Onshore, an experienced guide will relay the history of the fascinating temples, tombs and sights en route as you journey between Luxor and Aswan. These personal touches set The Philae above the rest of the many cruise options along The Nile.

Another important distinction is the Philae’s use of private docks in Luxor and Aswan, which enable her to moor next to the shore, a definite plus on the busy waters on the Nile. Without doubt, the Philae is one of the most stylish ways to see the sights of the Upper Nile.

Accommodation

The Philae's 58 cabins include 4 Single Deluxe Cabins, 50 Double Deluxe Cabins and 4 Deluxe Suites. All cabins are ensuite and are elegantly styled with upholstered furniture, detailed ironwork and rich fabrics and carpets. Each cabin has a TV, radio and its own balcony with sun loungers from which you can relax and watch the river flow past. Single and Double Deluxe Cabins have showers whereas the Deluxe Suites have baths and also the addition of a comfortable sitting room.

Childcare

Children are more than welcome on board The Philae and will enjoy being on the river and learning about the history and surrounding environment but please note there are no specific facilities for them. Infants under 2 can stay free of charge in their parents' cabin and a cot can be provided and several of the cabins do interconnect for larger families.

Facilities

The Philae Restaurant offers fine dining in impeccable surroundings- Continental and Egyptian dishes are served on bone china plates with crystal glassware and crisp white linen making the whole experience very elegant. The panelled Lounge Bar is open all day for drinks and cocktails and in the evening there is a disco for guests to enjoy. The boat also offers an outdoor plunge pool, sundeck, library and fitness centre.

Activities

Activities on board The Philae centre around the itinerary you have taken and all your daily sightseeing excursions are with an experienced Egyptologist acting as your guide.
