At a glance

  • Al Moudira is a unique treasure trove of furniture, artefacts and pieces of art that Zeina has sourced from souks, antiques markets and second hand shops all over the Arabic world.

Description

Situated just outside Luxor and positioned between the Nile and the Theban Mountains, you will pass rustic villages and donkey drawn carts loaded with harvested sugar cane as you approach the unique and opulent Al Moudira which is set in an 8 hectare garden and is just four kilometres from The Valley of The Kings. The architecture, furnishings and design of Al Moudira have all been meticulously planned and executed to provide a sense of an Arabian retreat, and the abundant fruit trees, jasmine, hibiscus and palms which surround the hotel provide the perfect oasis.

Al Moudira’s 54 suites are all individually and beautifully furnished in a fusion of North African and French architecture. Hand painted murals adorn the walls and there is a sense here of being somewhere special and unique and away from the city hotels and tourist crowds. Whether it’s a French, Moroccan or Egyptian suite that you stay in, it will have been personally chosen for you by Zeina, your charming Franco-Lebanese host.

After you have finished a day’s sightseeing at one of Luxor’s magnificent monuments, you can relax by the beautiful swimming pool or enjoy the hammam and the Turkish bath. The combination of faultless service, palatial accommodation and sublime cuisine make Al Moudira an unforgettable experience.

Accommodation

All of Al Moudira's 54 Suites have been individually decorated with hand painted murals inspired by Egyptian mythology and have been individually furnished to create their own atmosphere and environment for guests to enjoy. At over 50 square metres, they have a small lounge and office area and have high ceilings and hammam style bathrooms. Deluxe Rooms open out onto a flower filled terrace and are furnished with exotic furniture found in Middle Eastern souks. Junior Suites are larger in size and Luxury Suites have the splendour of an Ottoman Palace, with marble fountains and separate lounges with private terraces. There is also a 2 bedroom Family Suite with 2 bathrooms and a sitting room. All rooms have air conditioning, TVs and mini bars.

Childcare

Children are very welcome at Al Moudira which is a relaxed property and welcomes families. There is a lovely 2 bedroom Family Suite with king and twin bedded rooms, two bathrooms and a living room. There are no specific facilities for children but they will enjoy the pool and gardens and as the hotel is small, Zeina and her team will do their best to meet any special requests including babysitting.

Facilities

Delicious breakfasts are served on the terrace, light lunches at the Pavilion restaurant near the pool, and evening meals combining Mediterranean and Eastern flavours are prepared by the chef and served in the opulent dining room, The Great Room, complete with ornate chandeliers and Ottoman furnishings. The Colonial and exotic Eastern Bars are both atmospheric venues in which to enjoy a drink. Al Moudira also has a lovely outdoor swimming pool with a pavilion housing the bar, changing rooms, massage room and Turkish bath, a perfect venue in which to relax after a long day's exploration of Luxor. There is also an art gallery and a shop at the hotel.

Activities

Activities at the hotel include swimming, massage and enjoying the elaborate Turkish Bath. The hotel is well located for exploring Luxor and is just 4km form the Valley of The Kings. The hotel can arrange private guides for excursions to any of these destinations.

When to travel

The hotel is open all year, but summer (June to August) can get very hot, with temperatures soaring into the 40s. However, this is also low season, when prices drop. Best to avoid Ramadan, when some businesses will close for the whole month. Islamic festivals Eid al-Adha and Ras as-Sana are extremely busy as Egyptians are all on holiday. The dates for these holidays change every year, so check before planning your trip.
