Antananarivo, "The City of a Thousand Warriors", often known simply as Tana, is similar to many African cities, but has a flair all its own. The locals call it Vohitsara (city of beauty). Antananarivo has been built on the slopes of a Y-shaped granite mountain where vegetation covers an embankment, with the houses slotted into the space not already taken over by the vegetation.
The Hotel Colbert is a good starting point for the many different adventures that Madagascar has to offer. The Hotel has two restaurants and a large spa. Each of the 140 rooms and suites offers satellite TV, personal safe, mini-bar, IDD telephone and 24 hour room service.

Although there are no specific child care facilities, children are most welcome at Hotel Colbert. Food and meal times can easily be adjusted to suit the tastes of younger guests and babysitting can also be arranged for those that require it.

The Balneotherapy Center has an indoor heated swimming pool, hammam, Finnish sauna, relaxing room, cardio fitness facilities and various beauty treatments, such as massages, body wrapping and facial treatments.
The hotel also offers a business centre, two restaurants, a casino and a great bar.

Hotel Colbert can arrange for a tour of the city, otherwise take time to relax in the spa which has a range of treatments to pick from.
When to travel
Any time of year is fine for a visit except from January to March, when heavy rainfall in many areas can make some roads all but impassable, and when there’s a high risk of cyclones in the east and northeast. In general, the best time to travel in most areas is April and October/November. The coolest time to travel anywhere is during the dry season (May to October).
Average maximum temperatures vary from about 30°C in coastal areas (higher in summer) to around 25°C on the hauts plateaux. In Antananarivo and other highland areas, temperatures during winter can drop to 10°C and even lower during the night.

The Colbert Hotel is located in the Upper Town of Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar. Colbert is in the heart of the city, on Antaninarenina Place. It's near the post office, the bank and many offices. It is a ten minute walk to the town and five minutes drive from the central shopping district.
How to get there
13 hour international flight (one stop) to Antananarivo Airport. From there you can get a taxi, or an airport shuttle. It takes roughly 30 minutes to 1 hour to the town centre, depending on the traffic.
