Description

Set on 50 acres of sloping hillside overlooking the sea, Kilindi's imaginitively designed villas offer unique and extremely stylish accommodation on Zanzibar's main island, Unguja. There is 500m of private beach front on a sweeping bay 1km from the nearest hotel and one hour from Stone Town.

The hotel commands breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, traditional wooden dhows and Tumbatu Island can be seen across the sandy beach and from the T-shaped, 24 metre infinity swimming pool. The main building is open at the front through archways to a terrace overlooking the beach. There is a spacious bar with a waterfall feature and an indoor/outdoor dining area

Each domed residence offers guests a serious amount of space including a small courtyard garden, two plunge pools, outdoor daybed, huge wet room and, of course, a beautiful bedroom with floor-length shutters opening onto a stunning tropical view.

The highly-experienced restaurant team are on hand to create delicious fresh meals from locally caught fish and produce and guests are encouraged to venture down to the bar for pre-dinner cocktails.

If you can tear yourself away from your room there is a main pool to enjoy and even a mini-cinema. Otherwise, recline on your daybed and watch the fishermen's dhows glide serenely by.

The hotel prides itself on being 'logically eco' by practising rainwater harvesting, using solar energy, it has a water treatment & recycling plant and also an organic market garden with seasonal produce being used in all the delicious cuisine. The hotel runs profit-sharing initiatives with local community partners to support the locals as much as possible.

When to travel

Situated only 6° south of the equator, Zanzibar enjoys ideal holiday weather. Temperatures average between 24°C and 27°C throughout the year with 7-9 hours of sunshine per day.

There are 2 rainy seasons: Acute, brief showers, lasting about an hour in the morning occur for a couple of weeks during November. The rains last slightly longer in April and May, but even then it does not rain every day. These rains replenish the Island and are often referred to as the “Green Season”.
