Description

Peponi has a very relaxed atmosphere and has been ‘the’ hotel on Lamu for as long as anyone can remember. The hotel has 24 ocean view rooms and is set on the edge of Shela Village at the start of a stunning 13km beach. No two rooms are alike and all are differentiated by their location, size, and private outside area, with five of the rooms directly on the beach. There is a wonderful atmosphere and the hotel is superbly run by Lars and Carol Korschen.

Peponi Hotel serves an abundance of delicious fresh seafood and the small, intimate, open-air bar overlooking the ocean is the perfect place to enjoy it. There is a large pool nestled in the shade of two babobab trees with numerous palms and ferns surrounding it. Peponi's will be happy to introduce you to or advise you on an excellent choice of water sports, including deep sea fishing, water-skiing, sailing and dhow trips.

The Lamu archipelago is a chain of islands separated from the mainland by a narrow channel bordered by dense mangrove forest and protected from the Indian Ocean by coral reefs and large sand dunes. Lamu Island has been a port of call for travellers for centuries. The many historical sites are proof of the area's rich history which, when combined with all the natural attraction of it's tropical setting make Lamu a wonderful place to visit. When to travel

The rainy season on the Kenyan Coast is generally May/June. So from July onward the weather is gradually getting hotter and dryer until March/April when it reaches the high 90's (over40 degrees C). Christmas/New Year is generally considered the peak season and the weather is lovely then with constant sunshine and gentle off shore breezes. If you want clear seas for diving then make your trip after August/Sept.
