East Africa

Some of the continent’s most beautiful beaches can be found in east Africa, especially those of exotic Zanzibar, best enjoyed during northern hemisphere winter time. East Africa is also where you can experience the wonder of Africa’s wide-open plains and magnificent wildlife, including the great migration of wildebeest from around July to September. The Great Rift Valley and Mount Kilimanjaro are just a couple of other breathtaking sights on offer in this part of Africa.

Tanzania on the east coast of Africa has an abundance of environments to explore and wildlife to encounter: from flamingoes in Lake Manyara, to big tuskers in the Ngorongoro Crater and the great migration in the Serengeti. Tanzania is home to the highest mountain on the continent: Mount Kilimanjaro and some of the most celebrated beaches and pristine coral reefs in Africa across Zanzibar.

Rwanda, in East Africa has an instant association with its amazing mountain gorillas and breathtaking mountain views. Rwanda's beautiful natural features and rich biodiversity in the Parc National des Volcans and the Nyungwe rainforests make Rwanda a place that visitors will always come back to. The Akagera National Park and fantastic shoreline of Lake Kivu are also brilliant nature hotspots.

Uganda, in East Africa is situated on the equator and is known for its flat savannah plains and tall mountains. The unique and protected Mountain Gorrillas of Uganda inhabit the dense forests of Mgahinga and Bwindi. The Lake Mburo national park in Uganda offers safari and forest walks, and the western part of the Great Rift Valley holds Lake Albert that drains the Nile River.

Kenya, on the east coast of Africa, is the original home and iconic heartland of 'safari'. After encountering huge herds of wildebeest and the “big five” in the Maasai Mara in southern Kenya, the natural wonder of the Great Rift Valley, the dramatic landscapes and fascinating culture of Laikipia and Samburu, the tropical coastline of the south and the island of Lamu in the north will beckon.
