A Walk on the Wild Side - Zambia and Mozambique
A relaxed safari through one of Africa’s wildest regions taking in the beautiful Zambezi and Luangwa Valleys, followed by a relaxing spell on an idyllic island in the Benguerra Channel.
Zambia is the real Africa. Dusty pot-holed roads, vast tracts of undeveloped land, village life much as it was in Livingstone’s day. Just wild, unspoilt Africa.
Tongabezi, one of southern Africa’s most romantic lodges, lies upstream of the falls on the mighty Zambezi River. Large open-fronted houses and cosy cottages overlook the river or gardens and guests enjoy mouth-watering cuisine and sunset river cruises as well as the excitement of Victoria Falls.
The Lower Zambezi is one of Zambia’s most attractive national parks, framed by the dramatic escarpment on one side and the Zambezi River on the other. The game viewing is superb whether by foot, canoe or open 4WD vehicle.
Zambia’s jewel in the crown though is the South Luangwa National Park, straddling the meandering Luangwa River with its oxbow lagoons and fabulous ebony groves. This is Africa at its wildest and most spectacular. The lodges are small and personal, the guides impassioned and the wildlife boundless. Hippos laugh at each other, elephants come down to drink and skimmers etch the river surface as the sun sets across the river.
On to Mozambique and the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago. Benguerra Island is approximately 10km long and 5km wide and is situated between the islands of Bazaruto and Magaruque. The island is famous for its stunning white sandy beaches, tropical vegetation and indigenous forest, while the coast is renowned for a sea that is rich in coral and fish - superb for both scuba diving and big game fishing.
