African Horseback Safari - Botswana
Pick up your reigns and see the beautiful Okavango Delta from horseback, for a truly exhilarating safari.
The Okavango Delta is a unique mix of water, Kalahari sands and wildlife. A safari on horseback will take you through areas of bushman grass, fig islands and flood plains. You may get the opportunity to ride alongside zebra and giraffe as well as to see other wildlife such as elephant and buffalo. During the height of the flood, you can join semi-aquatic red lechwe as they thunder through the water meadows. After a long a exciting ride, cool off and relax under the shade of an acacia tree and enjoy a champagne breakfast.
Guests normally enjoy a long ride in the morning and a shorter, quieter ride in the evening as the sun sets. Alternatively you may wish to take a mokoro (a dug out canoe) through the lily filled flood plains.
Rides can be arranged with an overnight stay in a fly camp deep in the bush. Fires are lit at night to create a strong human presence to keep predators away from the horses. Night watches are fun and guests usually join in.
