From China to Mongolia
A short introduction to China with the excitement and history of Beijing contrasted with the tough terrain and nomadic culture of Mongolia, the world’s most sparsely populated country.
Begin in Beijing, China’s capital and visit the atmospheric Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and explore a remote section of the Great Wall of China, originally constructed in BC500. Retire to the opulence of the Peninsula Hotel or venture into the city and enjoy dinner at the private members China Club, a former 16th century Prince’s Palace.
From Beijing take a short flight to Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia’s capital and soak up the atmosphere of this cultural hub. Fly to the South Gobi Desert where a land cruiser awaits you for your journey to the remote traditional Gur (felted tent) camp - your base for exploring this fascinating area. The Gobi Desert is a fascinating area to visit to experience the lifestyle of Nomads who breed camels whilst making a living amongst this tough terrain. The Three Camels is an excellent base for exploring the sand dunes, visiting nomadic families and enjoying a traditional Throat Singing performance.
Return to Ulaan Bataar for a night to enjoy the fascinating culture with a cultural performance over dinner. Back in Beijing the Peninsula awaits and enjoy a night of luxury before returning home.
Mongolia has one of the most extreme climates anywhere in the world with summer temperatures sometimes rising over 35 degrees and mid-winter temperatures falling as low as minus 40 degrees. Therefore visits are only recommended in June, July & August.
