Experience big game viewing, whale watching, beaches and water sports on this ultimate family holiday which takes you along South Africa’s garden route towards Cape Town and then on to Mauritius for a few days on the beach.

Begin your holiday at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve at the fabulous CCAfrica Ecca Lodge. The reserve is malaria free, making it the ideal place for your children’s first safari. The spacious suites (of which there are just 6) include a sitting area which can be converted into a sleeping area for children under 11 years and an interpretive centre provides hours of entertainment for children of all ages.

From Kwandwe you will fly back down to Port Elizabeth to begin your journey along the Garden Route by self-driving to Plettenburg Bay. Here you will stay at Kurland, a stunning country house hotel with a focus on families. En-suite master bedrooms have a spacious loft for you young ones and activities include horse riding, mountain biking, quad biking and beach picnics. Dedicated staff are on hand to look after the children if you fancy taking a trip into Plettenburg Bay for dinner or a bit of ‘me’ time in the luxurious spa.

From here you drive west to Walker Bay for a two night stay at Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. Taking as its theme the unique flora of the western cape, the lodge also offer walks and horse riding as well as the chance to see African penguins, cape fur seals, great white sharks and dolphins. The highlight of your stay will undoubtedly be sighting the southern right whales, which migrate along this coastline from July to November.

An hour or so drive will take you to Cape Town from where you catch a direct flight to Mauritius. Round off this fantastic family holiday with a few days on the beach in the Indian Ocean. Le St Geran is located on a beautiful sheltered beach with excellent water sports facilities, superb children’s club and three restaurants serving a variety of cuisines.
