The centre of the country is fairly mountainous, has a cooler climate and is dotted with tea plantations and old colonial buildings. Sri Lanka has some spectacular ruins in the north of the country and its many national parks contain abundant wildlife, including monkeys, deer, buffaloes, elephants and even leopards.
