How do I apply for a job with Scott Dunn?
You need to fill in the application that you can download from this website, and include a copy of your CV, and put it in the post to us. We try to answer every application – and you should hear from us within 48 hours of receiving your application. Make sure you know which job you are applying for, by checking out the job descriptions on the website.

When should I apply for a winter season?
Winter recruitment begins in June and runs on until December. Summer recruitment begins in February and runs on until June.

How much experience do I need to be considered for a role with Scott Dunn?
It varies on the job role. For Chefs, we are looking for NVQ levels 1-3 and a firm grasp on working each section of the kitchen including cleaning and washing up! For hosts we require a minimum of two years solid service experience within the fine dining industry. This is not a gap year job! Nannies need to have NVQ 3 or equivalent and two years post qualifying experience.

Do I have to come to London to interview?
It is preferred that we meet you personally in our London offices prior to offering you a position with us. On occasion it is possible to have an interview in one of our operating overseas resorts. Unfortunately we cannot cover any travelling expenses incurred. Due to the nature of the service industry, telephone interviews are not permitted.

What sort of Visa do I need to have?
You need to be an EU national or have a work permit valid for both the UK and the country you are
posted in.

Do I need a CRB check? (Nannies only)
All candidates who are placed into a position that involves the care of children will need to undertake a CRB check. If you do not hold a current CRB, Scott Dunn will cover the cost of the £50 fee for this.

What will I need to bring to interview?
The completed application form, your driving licence, written references, or contact numbers of referees. Dress smartly and be punctual! The interview can last from an hour to sometimes two.

How long do the seasons last?
For winter you need to be able to commit to the entire season from late November through to late April. All employees will be expected to attend our Briefing Day, which runs early November, and is a great opportunity to find out about your future season, and meet the resort team, as well as the Operations Department. The summer season is different as our properties have a staggered opening.

I want to spend Christmas at home, are there opportunities for employment mid season?
Not really no – as all our staff need to attend the Scott Dunn Training Course prior to starting their season, and there simply is not the time to do this once the resort is up and running. If you have worked with Scott Dunn before, there is the chance to work peak season during school holidays.

What should I expect from the Training course?
The training course is incredibly intensive, as it has been designed to ensure that you can meet all our guests expectations and requests. It runs over four days, and each chef/host pairing will be expected to provide a typical Scott Dunn meal and service during the training course. This gives the trainers opportunity to see the strengths and weaknesses of each team, and assess the suitability of the chalet makeup.

What is the staff accommodation like?
You will be living communally, so expect to share bedrooms and bathrooms alike! You don’t spend a lot of your time in your accommodation, as you will either be working or skiing. Some of our properties offer wireless, and there is a strong bathroom to employee ratio! Generally you will not be living more than a ten-minute walk away from your chalet. There is plenty of space to relax in your accommodation, should you prefer to stay in after work rather than sample the resort nightlife.

How do you determine who I will be working with?
At the training course we are continually assessing the staff and their strengths and weaknesses to ensure that we are placing the right team in the right chalets. If you have applied to work with a friend, be prepared for the fact that you may not be working in the same chalet. We will always endeavour to place friends in the same resort however.

Can I apply with a friend?
Absolutely – as long as you both hold the right qualifications and work experience, if you are successful at the interview we will place you in the same resort.

What if I fail the training course?
If you fail the training course, Scott Dunn will provide you with a return flight to the UK. Staff who do fail the course generally stay in resort and are snapped up by other companies. The Scott Dunn standard is very exacting, and we need to make sure that all the team are very aware of these standards and prepared to deliver them on a daily basis.

Why do you keep a retainer from my salary?
The retainer is designed to make sure that you remain committed to your period of employment from start to finish. Staff who leave mid season create extra work and pressure on their resort team, as well as creating a void within the chalet, which will need to be filled. The retainer therefore goes towards the recruitment, training and dispatch of the new staff member. If you fail to leave your staff accommodation in pristine condition, or have any unpaid phone bills, your retainer goes towards the cost of that. On a positive note, once you have fulfilled your season with Scott Dunn, you will receive your retainer back six weeks after the end of the season.

How do I get to resort?
Either by flight, or by Scott Dunn vehicle. You will be notified of your mode of transport in good time.
