A visit to the western cape is simply not complete without a visit to the winelands. South Africa?s wine industry, now the ninth largest in the world, dates back further than most people imagine, to the 17th century. However, unlike some countries with much older wine making traditions, the wineries of South Africa welcome visitors with open arms and often offer free tastings and tours. Spend a few nights in picturesque Franschhoek with its stunning scenery and incredible array of world-class restaurants and visit the vineyards both here and in Stellenbosch and Paarl.
