Karanambu Ranch is set deep in the heart of Guyana on the banks of the Rupununi River, and surrounded by lush savannah grasslands. The ranch, home to Diane McTurk and her family, is a working ranch with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. The Karanambu Trust works to protect the local ecosystem as well as the Amerindian peoples living in the area, and Diane has a giant river otter orphanage, often with otters in residence as she re-habituates them to the wild.

Guests are welcomed on to the ranch as friends, share meals with the family and enjoy guided tours according to their interests. Accommodation here consists of 5 traditional simply furnished clay brick and thatched cabins.

The surrounding area is a nature lover’s paradise with vibrant bird and animal life. By day you can go out searching for wild otters and spectacled caimans, track a giant anteater across the savannah, sip a rum punch while watching the a giant Victoria Amazonica lily blossom before your eyes, go fishing in the Rupununi River or visit local Amerindian villages. Diane and her family’s hospitality is legendary, and you will be treated to tall tales of the Rupununi over a delicious dinner in the evenings.

• Paid activities Fishing, trips to the local Amerindian villages, caiman tagging
• Weather The rainy seasons run from May to August and from December to February
• Other Electricity is provided from a generator from 6pm to 10pm. Please note there is no hot water.
