Iwokrama, Guyana
Iwokrama is the International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development (IIC). The Prince of Wales has been patron of this unique project since it was founded in 1996. It is a great place to visit and get inspired by cutting-edge rainforest eco-tourism. It promotes a concept of a truly sustainable forest – where conservation, environmental balance and economic use can be mutually reinforcing.
The Iwokrama Forest is a vast wilderness of nearly one million acres – a protected area and homeland of the Makushi people who have used the forest for generations. The reserve puts on numerous events and activities to experience culture, wildlife and adventure, organizing visits to the local villages and tours to see the unparalleled abundance of wildlife.
