The idyllic landscapes of Gauguin
A collection of our properties are clustered on some of the most untouched, exclusive islands. The perfection of these sites, particularly Tahiti in French Polynesia and the cluster of remote islands in the Caribbean, were depicted through Gauguin’s eyes and the more secluded parts of these islands have hardly changed to this day. The volcanic land is rich in exotic flowers and immense trees, bamboos and ferns, with little bays dotted with toy-like colourful fishing boats. Gauguin sought an escape from the modern world, and he found his refuge in these islands. Many of these Caribbean islands with their picturesque rainbow little towns, are reminiscent of visions from Gauguin’s trip to the island of Martinique. It is no surprise that the famous painter was captivated by this charm; the bright tropical colours of the native architecture, accenting the lush, green hillsides are captivating and inspirational.
Gauguin was searching for an idyllic landscape, and an adventure to escape all that is modern; he discovered this in his adventures across the globe. Painting in his classic style of block colours, he opened European eyes to a new vision of the world. Gauguin provided a unique incentive to travel, to explore and discover these vivid exotic lands. In this way his name and work has became synonymous with freedom of the creative individual from one's original cultural moorings. With Scott Dunn you can follow Gauguin’s footsteps, escape to the Caribbean and Tahiti, experience the authentic sights and sounds, to discover what inspired him over one hundred years ago.
