Sadly Louise passed away after a tragic car accident while on holiday in Italy in October 2011. She was a dearly loved and central part of the Africa team and the wider Scott Dunn family. She quickly developed a passion for Africa after joining Scott Dunn a little over two years ago and we’d like to share a little more about her here. Louise is missed but not forgotten.
About Louise
Louise always loved to travel, be it in Europe or further a field. She couldn’t help but get totally immersed in the culture and ways of life of different countries. In 2004 she went to the Okavango Delta in Botswana and the Lower Zambezi in Zambia and immediately fell in love with everything that Africa had to offer. Since joining Scott Dunn she visited the Serengeti, where she spent the most beautiful afternoon surrounded by thousands of wildebeest as they carried on their journey for Kenya and in western Tanzania she was lucky enough to go trekking with some fantastic wild chimpanzees. In August 2010 she went to South Africa where she spent an awesome jam-packed two weeks in Cape Town, the Winelands and the Sabi Sands.
Favourite places she'd been
Botswana – lush, great birding and hugely diverse wildlife
Zambia – relaxing, beautiful, tranquil and stunning
Tanzania – out of this world game viewing, stunning sunsets, beautiful chimps
South Africa – European, delicious good, great wine, the best culture.
Louise's travel nuggets
01. You must try the sushi at Greystoke Mahale – ask the managers, Steve or Kiri – They’ll know!
02. Try not to get stuck in the middle of a breeding herd of elephant – they’re quite protective!
03. If you’re in Cape Town for any time at all, you must head to the Winelands, if only for a day to sample the fantastic cuisine on offer.
Louise's hot picks
01. Sea Five, Cape Town – this fresh new property overlooks the beautiful Camps Bay. With stunning, panoramic views of the ocean and Table Mountain this is the new place to stay. It has a cool, beachy vibe to it and serves fantastic snacks on their spacious veranda.
02. Delaire Graff Wine Estate just outside of Stellenbosch – because the views are simply breathtaking, the pictures don’t lie. The food is impeccable and the service is the best I have ever received.
03. Londolozi Game Reserve in the Sabi Sands – with over 15,000 hectares Londolozi is brilliant and has the perfect ethos of what a safari should be. Rooted with oodles of history, the Varty family continue to make this lodge the best of its kind.
