"I've enjoyed working six winter seasons."

About me

I’m a veteran of six winter seasons spent working in the Alps, Dolomites, Pyrenees and Canadian Coast Range so there’s not much about skiing and snowboarding I don’t know. I’ve also worked as a tour manager guiding groups around Europe in summer so I know my way around all the major European cities, and a fair few Mediterranean destinations. Since 2005 I’ve put my travel knowledge to good use advising travellers on ski and summer trips.

Favourite places I’ve been

Aspen, Colorado - upmarket and elegant yet unpretentious
Whistler , British Colombia - great snow, amazing terrain
Andalucia - amazing cities, fantastic food, great climate
Rome - every street is alive with history
Tenerife - fantastic beaches all year round

Travel nuggets

01. Going to a big ski resort during peak weeks? Head for areas towards the edge of the piste map or those served by drag lifts to get away from the crowds. At mealtimes stay off the beaten track for less busy mountain restaurants and more interesting lunch options.

02. When you go skiing always take a phone, a snack and some water. You’ll get hungry and thirsty quicker than you expect and it’s essential to have your telephone in case you get lost. Sunscreen is a must even if it looks overcast.

03. When you go to Venice it’s impossible not to get lost! So go with it and enjoy roaming through the quieter canals and piazettas: when it’s time to find your way home you can simply look up on the walls for yellow signs on each corner just above eye level pointing to St. Mark’s or the train station to find your way back.

My hot picks

01. Hotel Christiania, Val d’Isère - comfortable and convenient, right in the heart of a fantastic resort and with room options to suit all.

02. Hotel Rosa Alpina, San Cassiano - this hidden gem in the Dolomites offers gourmet dining and impeccable service with an Italian accent. The surrounding peaks are just as appealing in the summer when the snow has melted.

03. Aphrodite Hills, Cyprus - access to fantastic tennis and golf facilities make this large resort the perfect choice for sporty families. The Cypriot climate means it’s a great option even early and late season when prices are more competitive.
