"I'm most passionate about the south of France."

About me

One of the areas of Europe I’m most passionate about is the south of France. The area is bursting with culture, great food and, let’s not forget, wonderful wine. As a child I was fortunate to spend a significant amount of time in here and I’ve also spent a winter season in Val d’Isère.

A destination which I often feel is sometimes overlooked as a great escape is Mallorca. Located away from the hustle and bustle on the south coast are the beautiful villages of Deia, Valldemossa and Pollenca.

Favourite places I’ve been

Eastern Europe; Croatia; Italy including Venice, Florence, Rome. It would be strongly advised to avoid any of the European cities between June-August when temperatures are at their peak.

Travel nuggets

01. Whilst visiting Florence last December I discovered the hidden treasure of Ouattro Leoni (Four Lions) restaurant serving delicious local food at affordable prices located in the old part of the city. Be sure to take a comfortable pair of shoes with you as there is quite a bit of walking on cobbled pavements involved in Florence

02. After a long day on the ski slopes, stumble into Blue Note in Val d’Isère (next to the ESF building) to kick back and enjoy a cold beer. If you’re lucky, they also put on yummy nibbles too! For a typical Savoyard dinner in Val d’Isère try The Lodge (down the hill from the Christiania Hotel) where the French Onion Soup is to die for!

My hot picks

01. Four Seasons Whistler – a fantastic resort for all levels of skier, a nice change from the Alps. The hotel rooms in Canada and the US tend to be a lot bigger than those in European ski resorts. The winter season also lasts longer than Europe (late April). A city break to Vancouver can also be tied in with Whistler.

02. Villa Fontelunga, Tuscany – in the heart of Tuscany, conveniently located within a 1.5hrs drive to Florence, Perugia and Siena. Villa guests can enjoy dinner on the terrace at Villa Fontelunga in true Tuscan style amongst fellow guests.

03. Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, Sicily What I particularly liked about Verdura was the unique combination of 5* service and the extensive range of activities for all the family without compromising on the standard of accommodation. Everyone from the concierge to the General Manager were extremely friendly and personable allowing you to completely switch off and relax.
