About me
It’s always a thrill to be putting your skis on for the first run of the season. I absolutely love skiing and have skied in many European countries as well as the States. Val d’Isere, Zermatt and Kitzbuhl, however, will always remain my favourites. And now that I’m taking my children to the slopes, I’m steering towards the more family friendly resorts, for which Courchevel ticks every list.
My love of travel and experiencing different cultures has seen me visit so many different places around the world. Whether it has been backpacking, or in a slightly more luxurious style, I’ve travelled overland across East Africa; sailed round the Whitsundays in Australia; spent a Christmas on the side of a volcano in Guatemala and stayed on a houseboat in Kashmir. Wherever I go, I love exploring off the beaten track – whether it’s on foot, or with a hire car.
Favourite places I’ve been
Marrakech – souks, haggling, tagines and only 3 hours away
Zermatt - brilliant skiing and the best mountain restaurants anywhere
Italy – the people, the food, the scenery and the warmth
Namibia – the wilderness, the hospitality and some enormous dunes
Tanzania – breathtakingly beautiful
Turkey – stunning coastline for sailing, with great tavernas
Travel nuggets
01. Buy a map and go off the beaten track – you’ll never know what you might discover.
02. Make sure you have enough memory in your camera and write down the names of places you visit.
03. See if you can take the lift up into the mountains first thing with the pisteurs – you’ll have the whole mountain to yourself to ski down.
Hot picks
Chalet Zaphir, Zermatt – spectacular views of the Matterhorn – a thrill to wake up to every morning.
Amirandes, Crete – a stunning hotel with amazing service - I didn’t want to leave.
Telfair, Mauritius – a beautiful setting and perfect for families.
Djemaa el Fna, Marrakech – eat at the evening food market – it’s delicious and total theatre
