Roman Amphitheatre is a highlight of Amman

Being such a modern city with a rich ancient culture, it is unsurprising that Amman has a plethora of beautiful buildings that dominate its skyline.

Arguably, the finest piece of architecture in the city is the Roman Amphitheatre, which is the most obvious example of the Roman Empire in the metropolis.

According to Lonely Planet, the theatre was more than likely built in the 2nd century and it is thought to be of great religious significance.

The venue is very striking as it is built with three tiers, allowing for up to 6,000 people to watch a show at any one time.

People taking luxury holidays in Jordan will find that some events are still held at the amphitheatre and it is well worth keeping an eye on what shows are taking place during your stay.

If you have a head for heights try your best to secure a place in the upper tier, as this provides stunning views of the whole of Amman and is also a great vantage point to take in a play or musical performance.
