Diwali Festival highlights Cape Town's diversity

People taking luxury holidays in South Africa are often amazed at the diversity of Cape Town, as people from all walks of life live side-by-side in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world.

Cape Town is absolutely full to the brim with cultural pursuits and visitors will never struggle to find something that interests them.

One event in particular - the Cape Town Diwali Festival - is a clear indication of how different beliefs and religions are celebrated in the metropolis.

Diwali celebrations will kick off on October 2012 and the glamorous occasion is aimed at revelling in Hindu culture and faith.

Visitors will be treated to traditional dance, drama, music and other performances, as well as a number of fashion shows, fireworks displays and workshops. There will also be a plethora of food stalls open to guests.

The event - which is otherwise known as the Festival of Lights - is held at Ratanga Junction, which is major Cape Town-based theme park and is well worth a visit at any time of year.
