Zambian tourism chiefs urged to market art and crafts

Zambia is clearly blessed with a huge array of beautiful natural landscapes and wildlife, but few people will realise that the country is home to a host of talented artists and craftspeople too.

Speaking to the Times of Zambia, Kafue Crafts Centre's Lloyd Ndopu suggested that many people who take luxury holidays in Zambia are surprised at the impressive selection of arts and crafts that are produced by the locals.

He said that while promoting stunning areas such as Victoria Falls is vital, the Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) should also spend some time highlighting the nation's prowess when it comes to art and design.

"ZTB should market the art and crafts as well, instead of only concentrating on marketing natural wonders to the outside world," he was quoted as saying.

Mr Ndopu added that visitors will be amazed by the fantastic wooden sculptures of wildlife such as giraffes, elephants and hippos.

All of these creatures can be seen in their natural habitat in the fantastic Kafue National Park, which is another jewel in Zambia's crown.
