Zambia left famous explorer

Adventurous Britons may be tempted to take luxury holidays in Zambia after a famous explorer admitted the country left him "smitten" with Africa.

Writing for the Independent, Ben Fogle suggested that his experiences in Zambia left him with a new passion for Africa and for conservation.

He stated that his love affair with African safaris has since taken him to various hotspots such as Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Namibia, but it was Zambia that set the ball rolling.

"I visited the Luangwa Valley and went on a walking safari to see elephant and rhino and paddled down the river to see hippos and crocodiles," he noted in the publication.

Mr Fogle also outlined his intention to take his young children on an African safari as soon as they are old enough.

There are numerous national parks and wildlife reserves in Zambia, with tourism chiefs highlighting the Kafue National Park as an ideal place to see big cats in particular.
