Wildlife protection measures outlined in Tanzania
Tanzanian tourism chiefs have outlined plans to further safeguard the country's beautiful natural landscape, as well as its vast array of wildlife.
Speaking to AllAfrica.com, spokesperson for the Tanzanian Parks Authority (Tanapa) Allen Kijazi suggested that the nation has set aside an area of land that covers 250,000km as part of a special preservation initiative.
Tanzania is the only country in the world to do this and up to 28 per cent of the nation's total land area will be included in the nature protection plans.
Mr Kijazi stated that more and more people are taking luxury holidays in Tanzania in order to see some of the most intriguing wildlife on the planet.
With this in mind, he is hopeful that renowned destinations such as the Serengeti National Park will continue to prove popular, while smaller reserves such as Mount Rungwe Forest in Mbeya and Kitulo National Park in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania will also benefit from the additional protection.
Tourism bosses at Tanapa have advised travellers to head to the Serengeti between June and August, as this is the best time to see the great wildebeest migration.
