Visitors continue to flock to beautiful Zanzibar
Zanzibar continues to be a popular attraction for people who have embarked on luxury holidays in Tanzania.
Director of the island's tourism commission Ali Mizra told eTurbo News that visitor numbers are growing by more than nine per cent each year.
He suggested that more holidaymakers are being lured to the idyllic island thanks to its stunning, white, sandy beaches and cultural charm.
As well as its famous beach resorts, Zanzibar has a huge historical appeal, as Stone Town still displays evidence of its days as a major international port and many visitors find the maze of narrow streets in the town extremely fascinating.
Mr Mizra added that more than 175,000 foreign tourists landed on the island in 2011, which was significantly higher than the 160,000 that had been expected to arrive.
He stated that major improvements to transport networks in recent years have helped make the beautiful island far more accessible to holidaymakers.
