Victoria Falls 'are a spectacular sight'

One of the highlights of any luxury holiday in Zambia is the amazing sight of the imposing Victoria Falls.

The spectacular landmark is widely known as the "greatest known curtain of falling water" and it is easy to see why.

Around 546 million cubic metres of water plummet down the 100-metre drop into the gorge below every minute and such is the scale of the waterfall, it can be seen for miles.

"The breathtaking sight of this magnificent natural phenomena, seen in all its glory from the air, is unforgettable," one tourism chief commented.

Victoria Falls also have an interesting history, as it is widely thought that Scottish explorer David Livingstone was the first European to see and name them.

According to the Post Online, the David Livingstone Bicentenary event scheduled for 2013 will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the explorer's birth and organiser Belinda Hodge is planning to turn the occasion into a world class festival that will attract people from across the globe.
