Tourism chiefs hope to showcase attractions to more holidaymakers

Travel chiefs are hoping that building a major convention and tourism exhibition centre in Dar es Salaam could encourage more people to take luxury holidays in Tanzania.

Dr Aloyce Nzuki, managing director of the Tanzania Tourist Board, told the Citizen that setting up a new facility that could cater for around 5,000 delegates would help raise the profile of destinations across the east African country.

Dar es Salaam is building a reputation as a holiday hotspot and other areas such as the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater have been favoured by adventurous travellers for a long time.

However, Mr Nzuki is keen for tourism officials from around the world to see some of the nation's less renowned places in the hope that word will spread about how diverse and beautiful Tanzania is.

He spoke out after the New York Times named the country as one of the 45 best places to visit in the world in 2012.

Mr Nzuki told the same news provider that a lot of work has gone into improvements to transport infrastructure to ensure holidaymakers can easily make their way around Tanzania.
