Tanzania 'one of the best places to visit in 2012'

The demand for luxury holidays in Tanzania could grow sharply, after the country was singled out as one of the best places to visit in 2012 by a respected newspaper.

According to the New York Times, "Tanzania is coming into its own as an upscale safari destination" and the news provider included it in its list of the ultimate 45 holiday hotspots for this year.

The recognition was welcomed by managing director of the Tanzania Tourism Board Dr Aloyce Nzuki, who told the Citizen that a lot of work has gone into making the east African country a top choice among travellers.

He suggested that people never struggle to find something to do, as the nation is blessed with a plethora of unique attractions, ranging from the Ngorongoro Crater to Mount Kilimanjaro.

"We have strategies in place aimed at making Tanzania among the most favourable places to visit," he was quoted as saying.

It was confirmed earlier this week that a major rail route that will link ports in Tanzania and Uganda will not bisect the Serengeti National Park, the Guardian on Sunday reported, much to the delight of wildlife enthusiasts.
