South Africa visitor numbers on the up

A growing number of people are visiting various parts of South Africa, new figures have confirmed.

Statistics released by government officials have indicated that 3.7 million travellers were recorded entering the country this December.

Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma indicated this represented a two per cent rise when compared with the same period in 2010. Of this number, 2.5 million were foreigners, with plenty of travellers from Britain embarking on a luxury holiday in South Africa over the festive period.

Tourism chiefs also noted that the bulk of the overseas visitors headed to Cape Town and Johannesburg.

"I am confident all travellers enjoyed the warmth, hospitality and ubuntu of our people as well as the diversity and magnificence of our flora and fauna," Mr Dlamini-Zuma commented.

Even more people are expected to head to Cape Town in the near future, after the city's Table Mountain was named one of the new natural Seven Wonders of the World.
