South Africa recognised at World Travel Awards
The growing appeal of luxury holidays in South Africa was demonstrated at the prestigious World Travel Awards.
Established 19 years ago, the awards ceremony is considered to be the most noteworthy in the tourism sector's calendar and only the very best destinations receive accolades each year.
The latest installment of the annual prize-giving was held in Doha, Qatar yesterday (11th January) and it proved to be a good night for South Africa.
It was named as the world's leading sports tourism destination, while the country's Shamwari Game Reserve was hailed as the best safari hotspot.
Founder and president of the World Travel Awards Graham Cooke said all of the victorious resorts and locations had demonstrated their world class pedigree over the past 12 months.
South Africa is becoming accustomed to winning globally-recognised awards, as Cape Town's Table Mountain recently became one of the seven natural Wonders of the World and the city will also assume the title of World Design Capital in 2014.
